Housing project: PM takes notice of long queues of people outside Nadra centers

Nadra housing project

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday took notice of long queues of the people waiting outside Islamabad’s Nadra centers to submit their forms for houses under the Naya Pakistan Housing Project.

The prime minister’s special assistant on political affairs Naeemul Haq reached a Nadra center to hear people’s complaints about long queues and inadequate facilities.

Mr Haq phoned the Nadra chairman who subsequently turned up at the spot.

He conveyed to the chairman the premier’s instructions to facilitate the people applying for houses under the project.

Afterwards, the Nadra head issued directives for enhancing registration timing, saying mobile vans will now accept forms till 7pm instead of 4pm while the main office will remain open till 11pm.

Mr Haq said the prime minister himself is monitoring the project and reiterated the PTI government’s resolve to give 10 million jobs and 5 million houses over five years.

A day earlier,  the prime minister chaired a meeting of the task force on Naya Pakistan Housing Project.

According to a statement released from the PM Office, the prime minister appreciated the progress made so far and directed the task force to finalize modalities and future action plan regarding the establishment of Naya Pakistan Housing Authority within three weeks.

The PM said that the response received so far both from the local investors as well as foreign investors and overseas Pakistanis towards the project was encouraging.

He lamented that unfortunately the housing sector had remained one of the most neglected areas in the past and no serious effort was made by the previous governments to cater to the needs of the low-income groups for provision of shelter.
