Dolphin Force personnel gun down ‘psycho knife-attacker’ in Lahore

LAHORE: The Dolphin Force personnel reportedly shot dead a man said to be mentally ill after he attacked and injured five people with a knife in Lahore’s Sabzazar area on Saturday. 

According to the police, the knife-wielding man, identified as Umair, injured five people, including a woman and Dolphin Force constable, in the provincial capital’s Sabzazar neighbourhood.

A contingent of the Dolphin Force reached the spot and tried to get hold of the attacker when he stabbed a constable, Mubbashir. In retaliation, the personnel opened fire at him, resulting in his death on the spot.

The SP Saddar said the attacker, who he said was a mentally ill, was attacking passers-by in the area.

He said a contingent of the Dolphin Force reached the spot of the incident after a call was received on the helpline 15, altering the police about the knife-wielding man.

Later, relatives of the deceased blocked the road by placing his dead body on it. However, the police baton-charged the protesters and opened the road to traffic.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Operations has sought a final report of the incident. He directed his subordinates to investigate the incident from every aspect.
