KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Sunday announced that local government (LG) to provide alternate to affectees of anti-encroachment, including the affectees of Empress market, ARY News reported.
Talking to ARY News, Wasim Akhtar said that affectees of Empress market will be provided alternate at Shahabuddin Market. He said that all the affectees of anti-encroachment will be provided alternate at different sites, laying vacant under the control of city government. ” No substitute for those who encroached on public property”, he added.
On the occasion, Wasim Akhtar reiterated his resolve to adopt zero tolerance policy in compliance with the apex court orders.
The mayor said that under the directives of the Supreme Court, all markets and structures built on sewer lines, public parks and government’s land will be demolished and footpaths will be cleared.

He said Karachi Development Authority (KDA) is responsible to launch operation against the illegal constructions in the city and the police will ensure that no one will reconstruct the structures.
” We are not against any restaurant. We are only complying with the court orders,” the mayor said and added that some locations were lying vacant under the city government, which would be provided to the affectees.
