KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker, Aamir Liaquat Hussain, on Monday filed a reply in the Sindh High Court in response to a petition filed by MQM-Pakistan leader Farooq Sattar challenging the former’s victory in the last year’s general elections, ARY News reported.
Sattar had filed a plea with the SHC claiming that the election on his constituency NA-245 were rigged as his polling agents were barred from entering the polling station.
The MQM leader’s counsel, Muhammad Akbar, said in the petition that numerous evidences were found to prove that the election in the constituency was rigged.
Around 22,000 ballot papers were missing in the NA-245 alone, he claimed. He said the claim of missing ballot papers could be verified through form 46.
Our polling stations were also not given form 46, with an intent that ‘rigging’ would become visible in that case, the lawyer sia.d
He requested the court to withhold victory notification of Mr. Hussain until decision was announced by the SHC in the case.
Aamir Liaquat Hussain’s counsel has filed a reply in the court today.
The court adjourned the hearing until Jan 28.
Aamir Liaquat had emerged victorious from NA-245 with 56615 votes, leaving behind Farooq Sattar who came on second with 35,247 votes.
In Oct 2018, an election tribunal had issued notices to Hussain, Election Commission of Pakistan and others on a petition challenging his victory on National Assembly seat, NA-245.
