Over half of lawmakers yet to file their assets details, says ECP

ISLAMABAD: Only 483 lawmakers from total 1174 members of assemblies have submitted details of their assets in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the electoral body said in a statement on Tuesday.

The membership of the elected representatives, who will fail to submit the details of assets by January 16, will be suspended, the ECP warned in its statement.

According to the ECP, 688 lawmakers have failed to file their details of assets to the commission so far.

The details released by the election commission disclosed that 61 Senators from the total 104 members of the upper house have submitted their assets statements with the ECP.

Total 155 members of the National Assembly, which is lesser than half of the the house’s strength of 342, have filed statements of their assets to the ECP so far, the commission said.

Only 113 members of Punjab Assembly’s total strength of 371 have submitted details of assets in the election commission.

Sindh Assembly’s 81 members from total strength of 168 and 43 members of total 124 lawmakers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa legislature have submitted their assets’ statements.

From Balochistan Assembly’s total strength of 65, only 30 members have given their details of assets to the election commission, the electoral body said.

According to the commission, 43 senators, 187 NA members, 258 members of Punjab Assembly, 86 members of Sindh, 80 members of KP and 34 members of Balochistan assemblies have failed to submit the details of their assets.
