Former Indian cricketer, politician and TV celebrity Navjot Singh Sidhu has been sacked from one of India’s most popular comedy shows ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, reports in Indian media said.
According to Indian Express, Sidhu, a regular feature on the show, was sacked after his comments over the February 14 Pulwama attack in which he said that nations cannot be held responsible for the dastardly acts of terrorists.
A number of hardliner Indian groups have condemned and protested against his remarks with social media wings of the groups lashing out at the former cricketer on Facebook, Twitter and other platforms.
Indian Express, while quoting sources, said that he will be replaced by replaced by Archana Puran Singh.
Pakistan also protested and summoned India’s Deputy High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia and lodged a strong protest over allegations by India linking 14 February attack in held Kashmir to Pakistan.
The Foreign Office summoned the Indian diplomat and handed him a protest note, stating that India leveled unfounded allegations against Pakistan without carrying out a probe into the blast in Pulwama district that claimed the lives of over 45 security personnel.
It is pertinent to note here that Sidhu, who is considered a close friend of PM Imran Khan, also recently traveled to Pakistan during the oath-taking ceremony of prime minister and then on the historic ocassion of opening of Kartarpur corridor.
Hindutva groups had also protested on both the occasions with terming him a traitor and threatening him to mend his ways.
