PIA bans manual attendance, ends exemption to union and association officials

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) administration has major decisions for betterment in attendance system as it imposes a ban on manual entries by its employees and officers upon their arrival at respective departments, ARY News reported on Thursday.

The national flag-carrier issued directives for following Time Management System (TMS) as manual entries of attendance will not be accepted anymore after imposition of latest restrictions.

A notification has been released, a copy of which obtained by ARY News, regarding the strict regulations to be taken in effect immediately for all employees and officers.

Exemptions given to the heads of associations and employees of representative unions have also lifted by the administration, as of now Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be authorised to approve immunities to the officials, the order said.

Stewards and air hostesses of the grounded aircraft are also advised to input attendance through the computerised time management system.

The administration, in the latest series of decisions for ensuring attendance, handed over full authority to the chief executive officer regarding all matters relating to cabin crew.

Strict disciplinary action will be taken against the employees and supervisors who were found disappeared from their workplaces. Such employees could also face ‘immediate termination’ if they came under violation of recently implemented rules.

CEO was also given powers to take decisions after being reported by a special committee regarding accommodations of pilots and cabin crew members, it added.

On March 11, Pakistan International Airline (PIA) had issued show cause notices to 54 members of the cabin crew for their protracted absence from work.

The absent PIA employees include 45 women and nine men. They are accused of drawing salaries despite being on leaves for long.
