Deputy chief Afghan Taliban Abdul Ghani released

Taliban

KABUL: The spokesman for Pakistan embassy in Afghanistan on Sunday confirmed that Pakistan had freed Deputy Chief of Afghan Taliban Mulla Abdul Ghani Baradar and Mulla Abdul Samad Sani, ARY News reported.

Sources said the release has been made to make America’s rapprochement process with Taliban possible. The special correspondent of the United States had requested Pakistan for granting them freedom from jail.

Sources said this would send a positive message to the Afghan Taliban, following which they would be persuaded to participate in reconciliation process.

It is pertinent to mention that Abdul Ghani Baradar was arrested in 2010 from Karachi. He was accused of committing different heinous crimes.

Earlier this month, Maulana Sami ul Haq excused himself from playing the role of a mediator between the Afghanistan government and Afghan Taliban.

A high-level delegation of the Afghan government had called on the chief of the eponymous faction of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) at Akora Khattak seeking assistance in paving way and arranging peace talks with the Afghan Taliban.

“We regard you as our leader and will acknowledge your any decision in this regard. Kindly, guide us for establishment of peace in Afghanistan,” the Afghan delegation requested him.

They said Maulana Sami was their mentor just like the Afghan Taliban.

The JUI-S leader said it was an issue of global politics and the world powers did not want it to be resolved.

“I cannot burden (my) weak shoulders with such a big responsibility, however, I pray for freedom of Afghanistan and rule of Islam,” he said.
