LAHORE: An employee of Adiala Jail, who unearthed corruption of the jail administration, says he is being given death threats for coming out as a whistle-blower, ARY News reported.
Javed Iqbal, who is a senior clerk in the jail, claimed through a video message that he had pointed out corrupt practices within the jail and now proofs of all wrongdoings were being erased.
He said family was being threatened with abduction and some elements were trying to frame him in false cases.
He appealed the chief justice of Pakistan, prime minister and chief minister Punjab to take notice of the matter.
The jail employee first came to light on October 22 with a revelation that edible items of the prison were being sold in a nearby market.
He said his statement could be corroborated through CCTV cameras installed at the specified gate of the jail.
Later Inspector General Prisons Shahid Saleem Baig had also ordered an inquiry and deputed the DIG Rawalpindi to report within three days.
The official claimed that he was accosted by individuals in a white car on his way home after making revelations. “Two hours later, the owner of the go-down and two others came to my home and tried to take me away,” he said.
Further explaining the ordeal, he said that when he saw the go-down owner, he left his home and spent the night in an under-construction building on the jail premises.
In his complaint, he said he was being victimised for exposing theft of grocery items brought for prisoners.
