Afghanistan provided no information on SP Tahir’s murder: Foreign Office

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office (FO) on Thursday said that Afghanistan did not provide any information pertaining to the murder of Superintendent of Police (SP) Tahir Dawar.   

In the weekly media brief, spokesman of FO, Dr. Muhammad Faisal said that investigations of Pakistan are ongoing in the murder case of slain officer, however, Afghanistan has given no information related to the matter.

Referring to the recent tirade from United States President Donald Trump against Pakistan, the Foreign Officer said, Islamabad tweeted in response to correct the factual errors of the record, as Pakistan had extended its intelligence cooperation to the US during operations agaisnt Al-Qaeda, he added.

Pakistan was aware of the direct contacts between the US and the Afghan Taliban which “we take as a positive sign,” Dr. Faisal said.

Regarding Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Malaysia visit, Dr. Faisal apprised that the bilateral meeting entailed discussions related to trade promotion and mutual efforts to eliminate terrorism. Moreover, the prime minister highlighted the Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir to his Malaysian counterpart, the spokesman added.

Speaking of the relations between Pakistan and India, the spokesman stated that Islamabad offered New Dehli to sit for talks on all critical issues including terrorism.

On the other hand, calling it a victory of ‘peace lobby’ in both the countries, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday said that India has green-lighted the opening of Kartarpur border to facilitate Sikh pilgrims travelling to Pakistan.

According to the Press Trust of India, the decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

Indian Minister for Finance, Arun Jaitley, also confirmed his government’s endorsement for the border opening, saying: Govt of India will develop a Kartarpur Corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur, Punjab to the international border to facilitate pilgrims from India to visit the holy Gurudwara Darbaar Sahib Kartarpur on the banks of Rabi river in Pakistan where Guru Nanak Devji spend 18 years”
