LAHORE: Punjab Information and Culture Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan on Friday slammed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over maligning National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to escape accountability, ARY News reported.
Talking to journalists, Fayyazul Hassan Chohan said that NAB is an independent body and working freely to curb corruption in the country.
He expressed anguish over the criticism on NAB by the opposition and added that PML-N trying to make anti-corruption watchdog’s role controversial so as to escape from inquiries.
It is pertinent to mention here that earlier today, PML-N moved a privilege motion in the National Assembly against the NAB’s Lahore Director General.
Former prime minister and senior PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had moved the motion, stating that the NAB’s Lahore Director General staged a media-trial of opposition politicians in a TV interview.
Separately, speaking to a press conference in Islamabad, the former premier termed the NAB Ordinance a black law. Politicians are being insulted on the basis of trumped-up charges, he claimed.
Referring to the NAB DG’s interview, he said the Bureau officials disclosed confidential information and tried to malign the Parliament.
He said the accountability law is a black law which was instituted by a dictator and therefore, it should be done away with forthwith.
Abbasi claimed the Bureau was being used for arm-twisting of politicians and accused it of indulging in mud-slinging of members of Parliament. “We want accountability the country needs but this accountability should be without any discrimination,” he said.
