Court dissatisfied with police work in missing children case

KARACHI: A two-member bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday ordered the police to recover the missing children and produce its report by December 16, ARY News reported.

The bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, was hearing a case regarding more than 20 missing children.

The court expressed its dissatisfaction over the report of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and said that proper work was not being done for the recovery of the children. Justice Phulpoto called the police investigation in the case as lethargic and very slow.

The court told the police that the case of missing children was a dangerous issue and ordered them to look into all its aspects.

The government counsel informed the bench that 22 cases have been registered with police about the untraced children.

The DIG Crimes informed the court that a police team was formed on the orders of the I.G. Police and a missing girl, Naureen has been recovered.

The court ordered the DIG to appear before it during each hearing of the case until all missing children are recovered.

The bench also ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take steps for recovery of these children.

Parents of missing children present in court during a previous hearing said that the police were not being cooperative.

A petition was filed by the Roshni Research and Development Welfare in 2012 seeking court orders for the provincial police to consider the missing children’s cases, who went missing from different parts of Karachi, a cognizable offence, and register FIRs in that regard.

The petition claimed that cases of missing kids were not properly investigated by the police department.
