Justice Kasi retires as Islamabad High Court Chief Justice today

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Mr. Justice Anwar Khan Kasi will retire on Tuesday (today) after attaining the age of superannuation.

Justice Athar Minallah will be the next Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court.

The judges strength in IHC goes down to four after retirement of Chief Justice Anwar Kasi.

Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi did his graduation from the University of Baluchistan in 1978 and received his Master’s degree in Economics in 1st Division and LLB from the same university in 1980-81. After practicing law as an advocate for four years, he joined the judicial service of Baluchistan as a Civil Judge in May, 1986. He was appointed as an Additional District and Sessions Judge in 1991 and was promoted as District and Sessions Judge in 1997.

He was elevated as Judge of the Islamabad High Court on 4th January 2011. He gained vast experience in all the disciplines of law including criminal, civil, revenue, customs etc.

He was elevated as Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court on 25 Feb. year 2013 and served in Islamabad High Court for seven years, 10 months and 23 days.

A full court reference will be held in the honour of Justice Anwar Khan Kasi today. The judges of Islamabad High Court and District Court will attend the reference.

Justice Athar Minallah will take oath as the new Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court in a ceremony at President House tomorrow (Wednesday).

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar approved the name of Justice Athar Minallah as the new Chief Justice and sent the recommendation to the President for his endorsement.

Justice Athar Minallah was appointed IHC judge in June 2014 and is considered as one of the finest judges of the superior judiciary.
