LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday extended the bail granted to Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Khawaja Salman Rafique in a case pertaining to the Paragon Housing Scheme scam.
A division bench, headed by Justice Baqar Ali Najafi, extended their bail until Nov 26.
The PML-N leaders’ lawyer claimed that Director General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore Saleem Shehzad has become a party to the cases against opposition leaders as he has been engaged in propaganda against the party on media.
Therefore, the counsel contended, a fair probe into the case is impossible in presence of the DG NAB Lahore.
Earlier, the high court had granted interim bail to Khawaja Saad Rafique and Khawaja Salman Rafique against a surety of Rs500, 000 each.
NAB has launched an investigation against the PML-N leaders after protests by dozens of victims against the housing society fraud.
PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and former Lahore Development Authority (LDA) director general Ahad Cheema and others have already been in custody over allegations of corruption against them in Ashiana Iqbal Housing Society scam.
Shehbaz Sharif has been accused of ordering cancellation of contract of Ashiana-e-Iqbal to a successful bidder, leading to the award of the contract to his favourite builder, which resulted in a loss of Rs 193 million approximately.
