LAHORE: A petition seeking compensation of the damages caused to public property during protests led by the far-right Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) is scheduled for hearing on Monday by the Lahore High Court (LHC).
Justice Aatir Mehmood will hear the petition filed by a citizen, praying that the court should direct the Punjab government to make up for the massive destruction of public and private property due to TLP protests against a Supreme Court verdict acquitting Asia Bibi.
The petition further read that safeguarding the lives and wealth of citizens is the first responsibility of the government and failing to fulfill so, is a violation of citizens’ fundamental rights.
