Murad reviews electricity producing projects from garbage

KARACHI: Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, on Monday (today) chaired a high level meeting to review projects generating electricity from garbage and waste.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Local Bodies, Saeed Ghani, Adviser for Information, Murtaza Wahab and other officials concerned.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said, 3000 tons of garbage is being lifted from Karachi daily, which is sufficient for installation of a power plant having capacity of producing 50 megawatt electricity..

“Using solid waste, we can establish five power plants having capacity of 50 megawatts each and overall produce 250 megawatts of electricity,” the chief minister was quoted as saying.

Syed Murad Ali Shah directed Minister for Local  Bodies, Saeed Ghani to devise policy for Solid Waste Management in connection with producing of electricity from garbage.

He said that there is a proposal of installing such power plant at Chakra Goth in Karachi at the land fill site.

On November 1, Chief Minister Sindh said that the cost of Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply, K-IV project, has increased manifold and hoped the federal government would generously finance it and also hoped that a similar financial support would also be made by the center to Karachi Circular Railway (KCR).

“The federal government was committed to share 50 percent cost of the project when it was approved at Rs 25 billion and now it has reached to Rs 75 billion,” said Murad Ali Shah and added that he was positive the federal government would share the financial burden.

Shah said that when Prime Minister Imran Khan had visited Karachi he had briefed him about K-IV project and its growing cost. The prime minister had shown his support and cooperation for the completion of the project.

To a question about KCR, the chief minister said that it was included in the CPEC projects and now a Joint Working Group (JWG) has been formed, “let’s see what it decides for the KCR”.
