KUALA LAMPUR: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday invited his Malaysian counterpart, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, to visit Pakistan as chief guest on the occasion of Pakistan Day on 23rd March next year.
Mr. Khan extended the invitation during a formal conversation with Mahathir in the Malaysian capital on Wednesday.
PM Khan, who is in Kuala Lampur on his maiden official visit to Malaysia after assuming his post in August, was accorded an official welcome at the Prime Minister House.
Mr Khan’s visit would provide an opportunity to further cement the existing friendly and cordial bilateral relations by enhancing economic, trade and commercial ties for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
“Pakistan and Malaysia enjoy warm brotherly relations founded in mutual respect friendship and understanding reinforced by strong cultural and religious affinities,” the Foreign Office earlier said in a statement.
After assuming his office, Mr Khan had made a maiden telephone call to Malaysian Premier Mahathir Bin Mohamad on Oct 20, and discussed bilateral matters.
He had also invited the oldest serving leader of Malaysia for a state visit to Pakistan. The Malaysian leader had accepted and assured his Pakistani counterpart to visit the country soon.
According to Guinness World Records, Mahathir bin Mohamad, at the age of 92 years 141 days, is the oldest current Prime Minister having been born on 20 December 1925.
