Prime Minister decides to compensate those suffered losses during protests

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan, in his latest move on Wednesday decided to compensate those who suffered losses during the country-wide protests, which took place last week following a Supreme Court verdict acquitting Aasia Bibi.

Mr. Khan has asked government of Punjab to chalk out comprehensive compensation plan, so that people, whose properties were vandalized during protest of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) can be compensated.

Yesterday, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Noorul Haq Qadri met Prime Minister Imran Khan and briefed him about successful dialogue with the protesters and current situation of the country.

In a meeting that took place in the federal capital, the prime minister decided to keep himself in touch with religious scholars and declared clerics’ proposal vital for transforming the country into a state like Madina. He said they wanted to show the world a picture of real and peaceful Islam

On the other hand, countrywide crackdown against the rioters  is underway and as per the Ministry of Interior, nearly 1800 rioters have been apprehended so far by law enforcement agencies for being allegedly involved in destruction and harassment of citizens during protests that broke out after acquittal of Aasia Bibi.

In Islamabad, 700 people had been booked in cases, 56 arrested and 26 had been remanded. The order to imprison 19 rioters under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) had also been issued.

Moreover, 70 rioters were taken into custody from Sheikhupura.

In Karachi, cases have been registered in 34 police stations across the metropolis against rioters. In Lahore, eight suspects were sent on 14-day physical remand.

The Ministry of Interior has set up a complaint cell, urging citizens to share pictures and videos of those involved in damaging state and private properties in the name of protests. They have been asked to share such pictures and videos on 03315480011 to help identify the rioters.
