LAHORE: The Supreme Court on Saturday dissolved the board of Punjab Healthcare and ordered constitution of the new board comprising ‘competent people’ with immediate effect, ARY News reported.
The top court bench, during the hearing at SC’s Lahore Registry, had summoned Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid and members of the board to inquire about the reasons for resignation of Justice (retd) Amir Raza Khan, who was the head of PHC board.
Chief Justice, Mian Saqib Nisar, expressed his resentment at board member Hussain member for misbehaving with the chairman Amir Raza Khan.
Mr. Naqi apologized to the court for his conduct.
Justice Ejazul Hasan remarked that the Punjab Healthcare Commission was a regulatory institution but some people were indulging in politics there.
Punjab Health Minister Yasmin Rashid said the board of commission was constituted under the directives of the apex court and members were appointed after a formal approval.
The SC bench responded that the board must be independent and impartial to perform its job efficiently.
The CJP referred to Ms Rashid and said: “I had a lot of expectations from you, but you appointed [irrelevant] people in the board.”
The chief justice directed the minister to appoint competent people in the board within two weeks and furnish a report in this regard.
