THATTA:  After taking notice of ARY News reports regarding appointment of ghost cops in Thatta’s police department, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday summoned policemen for scrutiny.

As per details, the policemen who were appointed between 2012 to 2014, are being interviewed by the NAB officials after it was revealed that salaries worth Rs.250 mln were being released under the names of 112 ghost cops in the district.

Involvement of police officers Azam Gopang, Abdul Sattar Solangi and Raja Shahid into the swindle was established during the departmental probe.

It is pertinent to mention here that, on October 30, Sindh Police after taking notice of an ARY News report pertaining to ghost cops in Thatta Police, had penned a letter to National Accountability Bureau (NAB), and sought an inquiry into the matter.

The scam of ghost employees in Thatta police was unveiled by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Faisal Abdullah, while talking to ARY News.

Earlier in September, the government of Sindh had announced to launch an inquiry against 18 top officers of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) over charges of involvement in corruption and illegal appointments.

A letter was written by Sindh government’s Services and General Admin Department to the Establishment Division to initiate the inquiry against 18 top officials of police.

The involvement of these 18 police officers in illegal appointments was declared by the Supreme Court’s inquiry committee, the letter cited.

Sain Rakhio Mirani, Khadim Hussain Rind, Javed Alam Odho, Sharjeel Kharal, Abdullah Sheikh, Javed Jiskani, Aitzaz Goraya, Pir Muhammad Shah, Pervaiz Chandio, Usman Ghani and Nasir Aftab are among the officers alleged of irregularities against whom inquiry had been ordered by the provincial government, according to the letter.
