ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Interior, Shehryar Afridi, informed the Senate on Thursday that some elements were making attempts to destabilize and polarize Pakistan, ARY News reported.
Giving remarks with reference to killing of SP Islamabad Tahir Khan Dawar whose body was later found from Afghanistan, Afridi said the government was in touch with the Afghan government for probe into the matter.
Brother and sister-in-law of SP Dawar were also killed some time ago, while the SP himself survived two suicide attacks in the past, he told the Upper House. Tahir Khan Dawar was kidnapped from Islamabad’s G-10/4 area on Oct 26, and days later his body was found in Afghanistan. The deceased SP belonged to North Waziristan district.
Shehryar Afridi said the cop was under serious security threat that he had to stay away from Khyber Pakhtonkhwa for seven years.
He said the senior cop was abducted from Islamabad, and he was then taken to Fata through Punjab. Lack of patrolling along the other side of the Afghan border helped abductors execute their operation without any trouble, he added.
“We have asked the Afghan government several times to ensure patrolling along the border, but in vain,” the state minister said, adding a number of Pakistani citizens were kidnapped and taken to Afghanistan in the past. He said the government was now going to fix the institutions.
He told the House that Prime Minister Imran Khan had taken notice of the incident and ordered immediate inquiry into the incident.
The minister maintained the anti-state forces were active, “hence we should also be united to tackle all such nefarious designs against the country.”
Senate chairman Sadiq Sanjrani intervened and asked the minister that: “FIA is your domain, you must streamline its affairs.”
The minister concluded his speech saying: “We are answerable for the incident and we will bring all responsible elements to book either they are in Afghanistan or Pakistan”.
