ISLAMABAD: A senior police officer of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), who went missing in Islamabad, has been killed in Afghanistan, ARY News reported, citing family sources.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) Rural Peshawar, Tahir Khan Dawar, went missing in Islamabad on October 26.
The provincial authorities and police, however, have not yet confirmed his death in the war-ravaged country.
Responding to a question about the reported murder of the police officer, State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi said the matter is of sensitive nature and refused to talk about it. He prayed God forbid that if such thing happens.
He said these days doctored pictures and fake reports are being spread.
Earlier, the police officer’s brother had said the victim was posted in Peshawar and he took leave from his work and left for Islamabad for some personal matters.
He said the family lost contact with the police officer since then, therefore, they suspected that he was kidnapped. He said Tahir’s spouse right away informed police after she could not contact him.
Inspector General KP Salahuddin Mehsood had said in a statement that they were in contact with all the relevant institutions including Islamabad Police and were viewing the incident from all angles.
The KP Police has so far not declared the incident a kidnapping. CCPO Qazi Jameel said it would be too early to say something positively on this matter.
The Islamabad police said Tahir Dawar had gone missing from limits of the Ramna police station and a team was constituted to find him.
