ISLAMABAD: Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday subtly justified the assault on a television cameraman by his security guards saying that the media man hit his bodyguard first.
While talking to journalists in the premises of an accountability court, Nawaz explained that his chief security guard, Shakoor, was clearing the path to escort him towards the car.
In that struggle, the cameraman was pushed away. “I objected to the way [the cameraman] was pushed out of the way… [and then] the cameraman hit Shakoor’s forehead with his camera. Shakoor’s forehead started bleeding,” Nawaz recounted.
“I said, no need to react.. I saw the [cameraman] getting pushed, my guard getting hit, after that I don’t know what happened, I was leaving,” the former premier added.
Earlier today, a number of journalists besieged the deposed premier on the premises of an accountability court to protest against the incident.
Guards of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo’s protocol tortured senior cameraman Syed Wajid Ali Shah on Oct 17 as he filmed Sharif leaving the Parliament House after meeting his younger brother and Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif.
Police have included their names in the First Information Report.
