Gas crisis continues for fifth day across Sindh; transport strike adds to woes

CNG, KCCI, Supply

KARACHI: The escalating crisis of gas shortage across Sindh has entered into the fifth day and to further worsen the situation, public transport strike in the metropolis has added to woes of citizens.

As per details, the CNG supply by Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to the stations remained suspended while the Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) – a union of owners of private buses, minibuses, taxis and rickshaws in the port city – has also been on a strike for two days.

People across Sindh continued to suffer due to low gas pressure for domestic use, whereas residents of Karachi were caught in double complication as the strike of public transport left them stranded on roads.

The routine life of people has been extremely disrupted owing to gas crisis throughout the province.

Yesterday, Finance Minister Asad Umar assured Karachi’s business community for restoration of gas supply within three to five days to the industries in Karachi.

Moreover, Prime Minister Imran Khan also warned that those responsible for gas crisis in Sindh will not be spared at any cost. He directed the relevant authorities to resolve the gas crisis at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the prime minister ordered removal of the board of directors of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited over the crisis.

The SSGC had announced late Tuesday that it was discontinuing gas supply to CNG stations and captive power plants of all general industries for an “indefinite period of time.”
