Gas shortage to escalate as negotiations between SSGC, CNG association failed

KARACHI: The talks between the officials from Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and the CNG association concluded without any positive outcome, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

According to details, the chairman of all Pakistan CNG forum confirmed that the negotiations with the SSGC officials have failed.

Meanwhile, the SSGC spokesperson assured that all household consumers will receive gas at all costs, however, after fixing the technical faults in the field, the CNG sector will be supplied gas by the gas company.

A shortage of 350 MMCFD is currently faced by the SSGC, the spokesperson further informed.

The CNG association announced yesterday to protest as the Sui Southern Gas Company decided to halt gas supply to CNG stations across Sindh for indefinite period of time. Moreover, the Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) – a union of owners of private buses, minibuses, taxis and rickshaws in the port city – also went on strike from today.

Meanwhile, the public has been left stranded in all major and small cities of the province as a result of these simultaneous strikes.

The CNG associations has also threatened to block Karachi’s main artery Shahrah-e-Faisal if supply was not resumed.

The SSGC spokesperson in a statement said, supply to CNG stations will be discontinued for an indefinite period of time due to technical faults in the field, adding gas supply to also remain suspended to the industrial units run by the captive power plants in Karachi for three months.
