ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Fawad Hussain Chaudhary on Tuesday said the federal government has nothing to do with the detention of Khawaja brothers and barring the Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz from going abroad.
Talking to journalists, Fawad Chaudhary said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is taking actions as an independent and sovereign body and added that they country is moving in the right direction.
He said that NAB took Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Khawaja Salman Rafique into custody after Lahore High Court had rejected their bail plea in a case pertaining to Paragon Housing scam.
The information minister said neither PTI lodged the cases in which they were arrested nor they appointed a single person in the country’s top watchdog agency.
It is pertinent to mention here that officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) today (Tuesday) offloaded leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz from a foreign airline’s flight at Lahore airport.
Sources confirmed that the PML-N leader was offloaded from the flight because of a NAB case pending against him. Hamza was traveling to Doha when he was made to disembark from the flight at the Allama Iqbal International airport.
Earlier NAB arrested Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Khawaja Salman Rafique after Lahore High Court rejected their bail plea in Paragon Housing scandal case. The PML-N leader and his brother were arrested after the two-judge bench rejected their bail plea after hearing arguments from NAB prosecutor.
