Accountability court approves transit remand of Saad Rafique till Jan 21

Khawaja Saad Rafique NAB remand accountability court

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court on Wednesday approved a transit remand of former railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafique in a corruption case, ARY News reported.

The transit remand was approved by accountability judge Muhammad Bashir.

Rafique was produced before the court by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team today. The ex-minister is already on a physical remanded ordered by an accountability court in Lahore till Jan 19 in the Paragon Housing scheme case.

Speaking after the hearing, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader said accountability was never conducted in Pakistan ‘in the name of accountability’.

He said the entire system of accountability was in dire need of a revamp. “The non-serious government is struggling to manage affairs of the country,” he added.

Rafique said opposition alliance was the need of the hour, adding he completely supported the move for a nexus. United opposition will be able to pressurize the government, he underlined.

The former minister and his brother were arrested on Dec 11 after the Lahore High Court rejected their bail plea in Paragon Housing case. During the hearing, the former minister’s counsel informed the court that his client had nothing to do with case.

The NAB had launched an investigation into the alleged scam in November last year after a number of victims staged protests and held a press conference at the Lahore Press Club against the fraud committed by the housing society.

Last year, the anti-graft authority arrested former Lahore Development Authority (LDA) director general Ahad Khan Cheema and others over allegations of corruption in the scam.
