IHC defers hearing NAB appeals against Sharif for three weeks

Nawaz Sharif NAB

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Monday deferred hearing the appeals of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif, reported ARY News.

A two judge bench constituted by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah and comprising of Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani was hearing the case.

The anti-graft watchdog requested the court to extend the jail term of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo in Al-Azizia case and it also challenged acquittal of the ousted premier in the Flagship Investment Reference.

As a result, the court issued a notice to Sharif in the Al-Azizia case.

The court also heard an appeal filed by Sharif against his jail term during which his counsel, Khawaja Harris presented arguments on behalf of his client.

During the proceedings, the court inquired if Harris received a notice issued by the court pertaining to NAB appeals. He said he could comment after going through the notice. The NAB appeals were heard along with appeals filed by Sharif against his jail term in the Flagship case.

Hearing was adjourned for three weeks.

On Dec 24, the accountability watchdog decided to challenge the ousted premier’s acquittal in Flagship corruption reference.
