LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan on Wednesday directed to wrap up cases pertaining to minor offences within the period of three months.
The chief justice of high court further instructed to send a weekly performance report of all respective magistrates to session judges.
“All cases, involving minor crimes, filed until December 31 are to be concluded by April 30,” he ordered.
Justice Shamim lamented that the district court of Punjab has 7,475 pending cases which are related to minor crimes. However, he lauded the progress of Rajanpur, Jehlum and Sheikhupura courts for their speedy trails.
On January 1, Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan replaced Justice Muhammad Anwar-ul-Haq after the latter’s retirement as the chief justice of the Lahore High Court.
Last week, Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, the senior most judge of the Supreme Court, also took oath as the 26th Chief Justice of Pakistan, replacing Justice Mian Saqib Nisar who retired on Jan 17.
On the onset of his career, Justice Khosa enrolled as an advocate of the Lahore High Court on November 13, 1979 before enrolling as an Advocate of the Supreme Court on September 12, 1985.
