Qureshi sees ‘big change’ in Pak-US ties

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Tuesday that ties between Pakistan and the United States are improving, ARY News reported.

“US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham’s press conference is reflective of the improvement in bilateral ties,” he said in an interview.

Qureshi said the US senator indicated to the start of strategic ties between Islamabad and Washington, adding that he also agreed to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s viewpoint that there was no military solution to the Afghan conflict.

“Those who were pointing fingers [at Pakistan] till tomorrow are now praising [it]. This is a big change. A meeting between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Imran Khan is also being desired.”

Qureshi said the world understood that Pakistan had a key role to play in bringing peace to Afghanistan and appreciated its efforts in the Afghan peace and reconciliation process.

He said Pakistan was playing its role in Afghanistan and that all regional countries too will have to play their role for resolution of the Afghan imbroglio as it was our shared responsibility.

The foreign minister advised Afghans to put aside their rifts and think about their future. If Afghan’s thinking will lack uniformity, Pakistan alone won’t be able to do anything, he stressed.
