SAHIWAL: The identification parade of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials arrested in the Sahiwal ‘encounter’ case was put off on Wednesday after the victims’ heirs refused to identify the accused, ARY News reported.
The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Sahiwal incident had summoned Jalil, brother of the deceased Khalil and his son at the Central Jail, Sahiwal today at 10:00am for the identification of the CTD personnel in custody on judicial remand.
Jalil refused to identify the accused, accusing the JIT of destroying evidence and thereby spoiling the case. “How the identification parade could be conducted until all the accused are not arrested.”
He said the police and JIT knew who the killers of the Sahiwal victims were. “The JIT is troubling eyewitnesses and destroying evidences in the case.”
Jalil demanded the transfer of the case to Lahore. “Why should we take pains to come to Sahiwal for the identification of the accused? We have demanded the constitution of a judicial commission.”
Yesterday, the Senate Standing Committee on Interior demanded a judicial inquiry into the Sahiwal encounter.
Relatives of the victims, including the deceased, Khalil’s brother and the alleged killed terrorist, Zeeshan’s mother, appeared before the parliamentary panel chaired by Senator Abdul Rehman Malik to record their statement.
The committee categorically rejected the joint investigation team (JIT) formed by the incumbent government to probe into the incident.“Why is the government not appointing a judicial commission if it is within its power?”
