ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Saturday refuted reports that its chairman Sadiq Sanjrani summoned heirs of the victims of the Sahiwal shootout to Islamabad to meet them, ARY News reported.
“Heirs of the victims of the Sahiwal tragedy were not summoned to Islamabad by the Senate chairman nor did he receive any message from them requesting a meeting,” clarified a spokesperson for the upper house of Parliament.
“An explanation should be sought from the police as to why they brought the victim family to Islamabad?”
It is noteworthy that there were also reports that President Arif Alvi will hold a meeting with Jalil, brother of Khalil who along with his wife and daughter was killed in the encounter, in Islamabad. However, no such meeting has taken place yet.
Four people, including a woman and a teenage girl, were killed in a shady encounter involving the Punjab police’s counter-terrorism department (CTD) on a highway in the Qadirabad area of Sahiwal district at the weekend.
Chairing a high-level meeting on police reforms on Jan 24, Prime Minister Imran Khan directed the police to furnish the challans against those involved in the incident in courts at the earliest.
Briefing media about the meeting in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa like police system would be introduced in Punjab.
He said that the government had decided to bring reforms in Punjab police to improve its performance and service. He said that the cabinet meeting with PM Imran Khan in the chair had decided to bring the responsible of Sahiwal incident to justice.
