ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader of the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif excused himself from chairing a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday (today) owing to severe backache.
According to sources, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president will not be able to go to the Parliament today for a PAC meeting as he was strongly advised by his doctors to take rest after his backache worsened last day.
Yesterday, doctors examined Shehbaz’s back and neck after he complained of severe pain and conducted a physiotherapy, sources said.
On October 6, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested the PML-N leader in Ashiana Housing Scheme case and since then Shehbaz is under detention in Lahore’s prison.
Shehbaz Sharif was elected Chairman of the PAC in a meeting of the committee at Parliament House in Islamabad on Friday, December 21. The PAC in a move unanimously elected Shehbaz as its chairman.
Earlier in December last year, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government conceded the chairmanship of PAC to Shehbaz, almost three months after a stalemate over the key position. Though, several federal ministers of the PTI still have reservations over the appointment of Shehbaz on the top post. Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad has also hinted to move the Supreme Court in this regard.
