LAHORE: Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday remarked that the United Christian Hospital (UCH) was once considered a pride of Lahore, but now it has ruined to bits, ARY News reported.
Hearing a suo motu case regarding lack of funds for restoration of hospital, at the SC’s Lahore Registry, he said he won’t allow construction of a marriage hall at place of UCH.
He said the Punjab University and FC College had promised to provide their faculty for assistance in UCH restoration. He said all big contractors, who earned millions, must now come forward for renovation of the neglected hospital.
He said the government also vowed to provide 25 percent of the funds for restoration work of the hospital. The court also asked the steering committee to furnish its report on the matter.
In the recent hearing, the CJP had observed that he could go to any extent for the restoration of the hospital. “The UCH was a hospital which was gifted by the Christian community to the Lahorites but now it had been ruined,” he had said.
The CJP also ordered the chief secretary to come up with a restoration plan of the hospital.
