India’s LoC violation: Parliamentary affairs minister announces to summon joint parliamentary session

ISLAMABAD: On demand of the opposition parties, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan on Tuesday announced to convene the joint session of the parliament in the wake of Indian military aircraft’s violation of the Line of Control (LoC).

Addressing the National Assembly, Ali Muhammad Khan said the joint session will be held either on Tuesday or Wednesday to give a united response of the nation to the Indian aggression.

“I will try that the session is summoned today (Tuesday) even if it is at midnight,” he said.

He said Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi would also give a policy statement on the matter.

The minister of state for parliamentary affairs said India just like the past resorted to cowardly act in the darkness of night but the Pakistani Air Force gave a befitting response and forced the Indian aircraft to retreat.

He said Pakistan was a peace loving country but its desire for peace should not be misconstrued as a weakness. He said Pakistan was a responsible nuclear state but if India did not refrain from provocations, the Pakistani nation will give a befitting response.

After the NA session resumed on Tuesday, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Khurshid Shah, addressing the floor, demanded that a joint parliamentary session be summoned.

He said we stand shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces for the security and defence of the motherland.

“We are in a war like situation and a joint session of the parliament should immediately be convened to discuss the security situation,” he said.

Khurshid Shah warned if India could violate Pakistani airspace, we also had the capability to hit far deep inside India.

Taking the floor, Khawaja Asif supported the opposition’s demand that a joint session of the parliament should be convened to give a joint response to the Indian provocation.  He said an all parties conference should also be held to discuss the current security situation.

Amir Haider Azam Khan of the Awami National Party echoed the remarks of other members regarding convening of the joint session of the parliament and said the military leadership should also be invited to the session and the House be briefed about the intrusion made by the Indian Air Force.

Syed Amin ul Haque of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan was asked to brief the ambassadors of different countries about Indian aggression.

Khurram Dastagir of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz said Pakistan should step up diplomatic efforts to expose the extremist face of India before the world.

On this occasion, treasury and opposition benches expressed the resolve to stand united and shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces to defend every inch of the homeland.

Strongly denouncing the LOC violation by the Indian Air Force, they said Pakistan did not want war but if it was imposed, the entire nation would stand like a rock wall to give a befitting response to the enemy.

The House had started discussion on the situation emerging after the violation of the LoC by the Indian Air Force.
