PM Khan promises overhaul in government-run hospitals

RAJANPUR: Expressing his displeasure over poor conditions of government-run hospitals, Prime Minister Imran Khan has vowed a major overhaul to fix existing ‘dismal’ state of public sector hospitals, ARY News reported Friday.

Addressing a ceremony of health cards distribution in Rajanpur, PM Khan lamented [politicians] who don’t let local hospitals develop. Khan narrated that a hospital in Rawalpindi named Holy Hospital where he saw three patients on a single bed together.

Khan said he was also born to a government hospital. “But nowadays affluent people don’t prefer to go to government hospital. Ishaq Dar, Nawaz Sharif and his brother also prefer medical treatment, he added.

“Naya Pakistan is the Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal,” he stated.

He asked what law permits rulers to neglect healthcare of their own country and rely on foreign hospitals. PM Khan said even if a parliamentarian has an ailment, he/she goes abroad for treatment.

Hospital management can be overhauled only when a better, not senior, person is made chief executive officer of the institution, said the PM.

PM Khan said a particular group was looting the country on pretext of democracy.

“We will hold every one of them accountable, and we are not going to spare anyone guilty,” he warned.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Imran Khan launched ‘Sehat Insaf Card programme’ in Rajanpur.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar was also accompanying PM Khan on the occasion.

According to the health scheme, eight hundred thousand people of Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Muzaffargarh districts will be provided health cards by the end of next month.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had launched the first phase of ‘Sehat Card Scheme’ on Jan 4.

Under the scheme, the treatment for angioplasty, brain surgery, cancer and other diseases will be done free of cost.

At least 15 million people will benefit from this policy. The card holders could receive medical facilities up to Rs 720,000. The medical facilities would be available in more than 150 private and government hospitals.
