KARACHI: A meeting of the Sindh cabinet on Monday (today) approved to upgrade Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) to university and a bill of the Aror University of Art, Architecture, Design and Heritage, Sukkur, ARY News reported.
The provincial cabinet meeting at the New Sindh Secretariat, chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, approved the bill to upgrade KMDC into the City University of Health Sciences and also formed a committee to correct the legislation to send Sindh Assembly for passage.
Provincial ministers of local bodies and health and Mayor of Karachi will be members of the committee.
The cabinet also approved Aror University of Art, Architecture, Design and Heritage Sukkur bill for passage from the assembly.
The meeting approved amendments to the Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority Act, 2009.
The Sindh cabinet also approved establishment of ‘safe houses’ for women in the province on the directives of Sindh High Court, and directed for legislation for these safe houses.
The provincial cabinet expected to take into consideration a revision of remuneration for government doctors (from BPS-17 to BPS-20), house job officers and postgraduate students in line with the existing pay scales of their counterparts in Punjab, officials said.
The agenda also include establishment of a provincial grid company and consideration of a report on urban planning conference titled Transforming Karachi.
