Christchurch massacre: Naeem Rasheed’s family flies to New Zealand

ABBOTTABAD: The hero of Christchurch massacre – Naeem Rasheed – who lost his life while barring the attacker to kill more people last Friday, his mother and brother will fly to New Zealand on Monday to attend his funeral.

The son of Rasheed, Talha Naeem, also embraced martyrdom during the terrorist attack.

The Islamic Council is making all arrangements in New Zealand for the last rites of shooting’s victims while Pakistan Embassy is also helping out in this regard.

The family of Rasheed had reached Lahore on Sunday to take a flight to Christchurch today after the federal government of New Zealand issued visas on emergency basis.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi assured yesterday that the Pakistani government would also provide every possible assistance to the heirs of Christchurch attacks.

Lauding heroics of Rasheed, Prime Minister Imran Khan also said on Sunday that his courage would be recognised with a national award.

“Pakistan is proud of Mian Naeem Rashid who was martyred trying to tackle the White Supremacist terrorist & his courage will be recognized with a national award,” he said in a tweet.

50-year old Rashid who hailed from Abbottabad was a university professor. He received martyrdom along with his 21-year-old son Talha in the Christchurch attacks when a self-confessed white supremacist Brenton Tarrant opened fire during Friday prayers, killing at least 50 and leaving two dozen others injured.
