LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday directed the Ministry of Interior to submit its reply on a petition filed by Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif seeking removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL), ARY News reported.
A LHC bench adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period and instructed the ministry furnish reply by the next hearing.
Shahbaz’s lawyer submitted that the ban on his client’s travelling abroad was a violation of fundamental rights and he was not afforded a fair hearing before being placed in the list. The Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) president’s name was placed in the ECL unjustly and without any substantial material, he added.
He said imposing travel restrictions on his client are against the facts and law.

The counsel requested the court to invalidate the February 21 decision of placing the name of his client in the ECL.
However, a state counsel contended before the court that the petitioner ought to approach the Islamabad High Court for removal of his name from the ECL as the federal government has been cited as respondent in the case.
Upon this, the bench said that the petition involving the federation can be heard by any high court.
