Kamran Michael’s jail remand: NAB challenges court decision in SHC

KARACHI: Prosecutor General of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday challenged the accountability court’s decision to send former federal minister Kamran Michael to jail, in Sindh High Court (SHC), ARY News reported.

An accountability judge had turned down the NAB investigation officer’s request for physical remand and sent Michael to jail on judicial remand.

The bureau challenged the court’s decision in high court on the directives of the Chairman NAB.

The NAB plea said that the former federal minister has allegedly allotted 16 plots of KPT Cooperative Housing Society in Karachi illegally.

Michael and other accused inflicted over 11 billion rupees loss to the national exchequer, the petition said.

NAB prosecutor’s plea said that the accused former minister’s physical remand is necessary to reach to the evidence. He requested for handing over Kamran Michael to NAB for 15 days’ physical remand to NAB.

Earlier, former minister had challenged his arrest in the Sindh High Court (SHC).

“I was not named in the inquiry and neither in the reference of KPT land allotment scam,” the former minister stated in his plea.

Michael termed his arrest as an alleged political victimization.

The court after serving notice to the NAB had sought a thorough report into arrest of the former minister until March 19.

Kamran Micheal remained the minister for ports and shipping between 2013 and 2016. He had held several portfolios in cabinets during different governments.

The NAB chairman had ordered an inquiry in January 2018, against Michael for alleged misuse of his authority.
