KARACHI: Karachi Police has decided to mobilize a new unit of the department ‘Sea Watch’ for policing at the city’s beach, ARY News reported on Friday.
The new police unit being mobilized to facilitate the citizens, SSP South Pir Mohammed Shah has said in a statement.
The police department has initiated work for selection of the policemen for the new unit, SSP Shah further said.
The department will deploy qualified and good policemen for the Sea Watch unit within a week, the police officer said.
Karachi police recently dismissed four policemen from service for harassing and manhandling a couple at Karachi’s Sea View in South district.
A policeman in uniform can be seen in a video — shared on social media — while manhandling a woman and trying to snatch a cell phone from the man who was making the video.
Three policeman were found involved in the incident, said the SSP South in an earlier statement, adding that few policemen bring a bad name to the entire force.
“Initial investigation of the incident revealed that the four policemen used to work as a gang to harass and extort couples.
He had also asked people who experienced such “behaviour” by the police to come forward and report their ordeal. He assured that strict action would be taken against those involved.
