ISLAMABAD: A resolution was submitted in the National Assembly on Saturday demanding that Prime Minister Imran Khan should be given Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution towards peace in the region, ARY News reported.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain submitted the resolution in the National Assembly Secretariat.

The resolution said Imran Khan played a sagacious role in de-escalating tension between Pakistan and India which was created due to the war mongering attitude of the Indian leadership.

It noted that the aggression manifested by the Indian leadership had brought the two nuclear-armed states to the brink of war, endangering the lives of tens of millions of people on both sides of the border.

The resolution said that this situation was averted because of proactive and deft handling of the situation by PM Khan.

Following the prime minister’s announcement to release the captured Indian pilot Abhinandan, #NobelPrizeforImranKhan had become a top trend on Twitter, while this announcement also made headline in newspapers and TV channels across the globe.

Fans of Imran Khan from all around the world launched a campaign calling to declare the chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) an ambassador of peace.

An online application demanding to give Imran Khan ‘Nobel Peace Prize 2020’ has received more than 0.15 million signatures.

The release of pilot Abhinandan is a gesture of peace from Pakistan, in order to de-escalate the soaring tensions with New Delhi.

The announcement to release the captured pilot was made on February 28 by PM Khan during a joint session of parliament.

On February 27, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) after striking down two Indian fighter jets had arrested one pilot, who had ejected himself after being hit in the airspace of Pakistan in Azad Jammu and Kashmir — something that came as an unexpected setback for India.
