Rescue operation for 150 Hindu yatrees trapped in Balochistan

QUETTA: A rescue operation commenced for rescuing around 150 Hindu yatrees trapped in a mountainous region of Shoran following flood situation in Balochistan, ARY News reported on Sunday.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PMDA) spokesperson said that authorities have started a rescue operation to evacuate the trapped Hindu yatrees.

The Hindu pilgrims were being shifted to PMDA camp through helicopter while the rescue operation will be continued for one hour.

Hindu yatrees were trapped in suburban areas of Hari Mandir [temple] situated in Bolan’s Sukleji and sought help from the Balochistan government.

Following the appeal, Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan had directed Commissioner and Deputy Commission of Naseerabad to take immediate measures for the safe evacuation of the visiting Hindu yatrees.

Balochistan is facing flood-like situation following a new spell of heavy rainfall and thunderstorm hit the province, claiming at least 13 lives and more than 100 persons were missing so far.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted that a shallow westerly wave was presently affecting upper and central parts of the country as this weather system is likely to intensify and grip most parts of the country on Monday.

the new weather system will bring more rain to Makran and Kalat divisions and scattered places in Quetta, Zhob, Sibbi, Nasirabad, D.G Khan, D.I Khan divisions in Balochistan.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu, Malakand, and Kohat districts will also experience rainfall.

Few moderate to isolated heavy showers are expected in Makran, Zhob and Quetta divisions while hailstorm at a few places during the period.

The weather department said hot and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country.
