PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Shah Farman on Saturday revealed that he is only receiving Rs80,000 as salary for his services as province’s governor, ARY News reported.
“The governor’s salary is less than all the MPAs and MNAs, which is just Rs80,000, which is too low (for a governor),” said Shah Farman while talking exclusively to ARY News.
The KP governor, while answering a question about a news regarding 800 percent increase in governor’s salaries, said that the previous government had prepared a law keeping in view that guiding principle that the remuneration of the President of Pakistan shall be a symbolic one rupee higher than the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) and if that law is passed, it automatically gets implemented on governors of all four provinces.
“If they implement this law, then I don’t know how much raise I will get but I think Rs80,000 is way too low considering my services as a governor,” said Shah Farman.
The KP governor maintained that even as a minister (during the PTI’s 2013-2018 tenure in KP) he used to ask my Personal Assistant (PA) about my salary cheque every month.
“One day my driver told me that sir I have worked with ministers in the past too, but none inquired about his salary cheque like you do,” said Shah Farman.
He added that a good salary will curb corruption for then the person holding a high office will have no justification for his conduct.
It is pertinent to note here that earlier this week, a section of media reported that the government is mulling an 800 percent increase in govenor’s salaries.
