FM Qureshi, ex-PM of Norway urge Int’l community to resolve Kashmir issue on priority

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi and erstwhile Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik underscored the need of international community’s participation in resolving Kashmir conflict.

According to details, the former premier of Norway called on FM Qureshi on Monday, the two dignitaries urged the international community to play its due role to ease the problems and sufferings of the oppressed Kashmiri people.

The foreign minister laid stress on the point that ‘use of force’ by Indian troops could never settle the Kashmir dispute; the solution to the issue should be peaceful, political and diplomatic as per the UNSC resolutions, he suggested.

While discussing the Kashmir issue thoroughly, the Pakistani official said India should abolish all black laws in the held valley and respect the birth right of Kashmiri people for their right to self determination.

Voicing concerns over consistent alarming situation in the disputed valley, FM Qureshi stated, “It is the legal and moral responsibility of the UNSC to take necessary steps towards conducting plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with its resolutions.”

Further, the Norwegian representative also noted that Kashmir issue should be listed on the priority agenda of the global community. It is desirable that a peaceful way out is sought to resolve Kashmir dispute, he remarked.
